Are Unschooled Teens Immature?
August 11, 2023 from Happiness is Here
One of the things I love about unschooling is that it allows for a long childhood, at a time when childhood seems to be getting shorter and shorter. This is important to me and I believe healthy for children, and one of the reasons I decided to unschool. What I see in unschooled children is that well into the teen years they are still spending a lot of time playing, they are carefree, they are focused on fun and joy, they are free-spirited and energetic.

The Best (and Most Beautiful) Poetry Books for Kids
August 8, 2023 from Happiness is Here
Poetry seems to be something people either love or hate. Maybe it’s because in school we weren’t allowed to just enjoy it, we had to analyse it. I mostly didn’t get it. As an adult, unschooling my kids, I was willing to give it another try, but I wanted to focus on enjoyment. Reading whatever we wanted, finding things we loved. All four of my girls now love poetry and we have poetry teatime every week.

Check Your Instincts In At the Door
August 7, 2023 from Think Again
Some times it seems that in order to be a Good Parent™, parents must leave their feelings at the door. They’re told ‘We know children best’. ‘They’re feeding off your anxiety.’ ‘Just don’t give them the option and they’ll be fine’. ‘Show them a united front and they’ll soon learn there’s no point in arguing’. ‘Don’t challenge the school, as that might mean that they do the same.’
Feeling Loved
August 7, 2023 from Brave Writer
Knowing you’re loved and feeling loved are not identical. What feels like love to you? If your spouse tells you that your haircut isn’t flattering, does that feel like love? If after a long night with a wide-awake baby, your friend tells you that you aren’t a good friend because you canceled your coffee date, does that feel like love?
