More Play and Less Therapy for Students
July 23, 2022 from Free to Learn
School-aged children are suffering from stress and its associated anxiety and depression at epidemic levels. One result is that schools, more than ever before, are going into the mental health business. They are hiring, or lobbying to hire, more therapists and counselors. The job market for school psychologists is rosy. Some schools are bringing in new socio-emotional learning (SEL) courses aimed at teaching students to be more aware of their own and one another’s feelings and ways of reducing negative feelings through cognitive means.
On Yummy Cheap Food and Being Free
July 22, 2022 from Copasetic Flow
Telling kids what they ‘can do' is way more freeing than asking them what they’d ‘like to do’. tldr; if you’re not comfortable with the kids in your house running off’t, don’t read this.
Are We Experimenting on Our Kids?
July 22, 2022 from Radical Learning Talks
One of the biggest fears of us parents is fucking up our kids. Therefore most of us are doing all we can to find a parenting style and an education that will guarantee that our kids turn into good, successful humans. But is there really any foolproof method? Isn't it all a huge experiment? Unschooling for sure is, and instead of hiding it, in this episode we embrace the fact that yes, we are experimenting with our kids!
Advice to the Mom Who Lost Track of Her Kid at the Airport (And Has Been Beside Herself Ever Since)
July 21, 2022 from Free Range Kids
You may recall Katy, the mom who told her 6-year-old to sit by the luggage for a little bit at Newark Airport while she ran to get them food. The girl got nervous and wandered off, only to be found by some kindly stranger who brought her to a lady in uniform, who quickly returned the girl to where she’d been waiting. The mother and child reunion was only a moment away.

Can Christians Unschool?
July 21, 2022 from Stories of an Unschooling Family
Can Christians unschool? We’re Christian unschoolers. Maybe you’re Christian unschoolers too? There are lots of us living this way of life. But are we doing the right thing? Or are we side-stepping our responsibilities when we choose to unschool? Are we choosing the easy, lazy path?
How to Unschool: Don't be Scared of the "Rules"
July 21, 2022 from The Wayward Homesteaders
Are you curious about unschooling? Are your kids just not finding success under the pressure of books and strict curriculum? Missy and I have been unschooling for several years, and we have found the PEACE that comes along with unschooling is incomparable to the stress that can come along with using traditional curriculum or attending public/private schools.

Milestone Democratic School / Get It Right Educators’ Co-op Seeks Teacher/Advisor
July 18, 2022 from AERO
Get It Right is a not-for-profit, worker-owned cooperative that will be under contract to provide staffing, operations, and management of Milestone Democratic School in 2022-23. All full-time and part-time staff at Milestone will be worker-owners and/or employees of Get It Right, working under co-employment agreements between the co-op and the school. By organizing our staff into an independent worker co-op, we ensure that staff have the same access and obligation to engage in democratic self-governance which we expect of students at Milestone. Get It Right endorses the Dignity in Schools campaign, and the Abolitionist Teaching Network. To learn more about our co-op, visit our website.
COVID, Screens, and Multiplicity
July 17, 2022 from Swimming Upstream
I have COVID, so I’ll write about COVID first. (I also didn’t proof read this post because it took a lot of energy to write and I have COVID, so there. Sorry for typos or nonsensical sentences.) … I have COVID. It sucks. I’m on the mend but it’s in my chest and I can’t sleep and I miss my son who is staying at his dad’s until we’re all clear. This wave of firm isolation while we wait to make sure we’re not passing anything on to other people has been harder than expected. I mean, we’ve been in relative isolation for, what is it? 3 years now? But I’m struggling with it. Likely because I’m so eager for it to be over and now we’re back at square one.
