SF Youth Free Cable Car Passes
October 22, 2022 from Copasetic Flow
One of the safest things for us to do, pandemic-wise, is stay outside, but you gotta get places right? For many of us that involves taking MUNI across town. For many of us that involves taking MUNI across town. Thankfully, with the windows and the roof-top emergency door all open, a bit of breeze blows through the bus, but is there an even safer way? If you’re traveling east to west downtown, there is: the California cable car line! You can sit on the outside benches of this—usually—uncrowded resource, enjoy the fresh air, and reach your destination in style. For adults with MUNI passes, it’s free. And! MUNI is free for all youth in town under the age of 18! But, for cable cars, there’s a catch you need to be aware of…

CoLearn~Bridging Unconventional Education Approaches with Michael Staton
October 20, 2022 from Honey! I’m Homeschooling the Kids
In this podcast I want to share unique learning journeys. These learning journeys don't fit the mold of the classroom and challenge the idea of what is possible in life learning. This is important because if we don't hear about these experiences, then how will we ever know that they are possible? Not only that, we are in a new era of remote and hybrid work and learning. Our working life looks different, so why wouldn't our learning life?

Then she emailed us this worksheet filled out by her pride and joy, Emma, a second grader. Emma is wiser than many an adult, when it comes to what kids NEED THE MOST. In case you have a hard time reading it, Emma is making the case for a longer recess.

The Pitfalls of Treating Kids Like Adults
October 14, 2022 from Radical Learning Talks
We often hear parents say that they treat their kids like adults - and believe us, we’ve done it ourselves! But why do we do that? And should we, really? In this episode we talk about the pitfalls of treating kids like adults.
Q&A Deep Dive, Episode 334
October 13, 2022 from Living Joyfully with Unschooling
In the intro, Pam shares details about the new vision for the Exploring Unschooling podcast! And, this week, we're diving deep into a listener question submitted by Joanna. "How can I convince my spouse that unschooling is right or good while I myself feel I am conducting a big experiment? When will I feel confident that this experiment will work out for the best?"
Setting Up Your Homeschool Space
October 13, 2022 from Honey! I’m Homeschooling the Kids
I get it. As a homeschooling or unschooling parent we want to create the best learning environment ever. We don't want to just replace school. We want to be better than school. So what do we do? We plan, we purchase, we organize and we create a space that will offer as much as possible to our children's learning life.
Instead of Chores, Build A Team Mentality
October 11, 2022 from Untigering
A few months ago, Jason and I went out for a date night. When we returned home, we noticed how the dishes were done and the counters cleared. The boys had taken care of everything while we were gone. “So responsible!” we thought to ourselves. Unfortunately, we had completely forgotten to remind them to empty the garbage for pick-up the next day. When Jason remembered the next morning, he hurried around the house to collect the trash before the trucks arrived. As he went around checking the trash cans, he realized that all of them were empty.
Self-Esteem
October 10, 2022 from Sophie Cristophy
Self-esteem is probably the most crucial aspect of a consent-based, self-directed life. It is also the thing that is most attacked by the receding dominant culture in which we live. It’s hard to be self-loving in a meaningful way, if you don’t have solid self-esteem. It’s hard to make hard choices for yourself in your best interests, if your self-esteem is wobbly.
Unschooling and Math with Marcella O'Brien, Episode 213 Flashback
October 6, 2022 from Living Joyfully with Unschooling
This week on the podcast, I'm sharing a popular episode from early 2020 with unschooling mom Marcella O’Brien. Marcella's grown sons, Jack and Sean, have also joined me to talk about their experience growing up unschooling in episode 181. Marcella's experience as a public school teacher and math tutor gives her a unique perspective, which led to an interesting conversation about math in school versus unschooling. Because she's participated in both worlds, Marcella was able to share some amazing insights about math, a common sticking point for many new unschoolers.
